Rural French locations losing out to stylish city spots

Investors and homebuyers interested in French property are increasingly turning away from rural, country homes and farmhouses and opting for city properties, it has been reported.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the south of France where many of the country's rural properties are to be found is still as popular as ever, but the quaint cottages and rustic stone houses that characterise it are not.

British people are now reportedly more interested in buying a property in France where they can experience the elegance and atmosphere of the romantic country, while still having access to the amenities and conveniences to which they have become accustomed in the UK.

Trisha Mason, managing director of VEF French Property, commented to the Telegraph: "It's all very well to have a lovely rural location – but what happens when you want to go to the cinema, if you want to hear music, or if you would like to have a good selection of good shops and restaurants on your doorstep?"

"What these people are trying to achieve is a similar lifestyle to that which they have at home – but with a much better quality."

There has therefore been an upturn in popularity of properties such as stylish apartments and beachfront villas, in locations like Nice, Cannes and Marseille.
