More Brits Taking Train to France

Eurostar, the high-speed train linking the UK with France and the rest of Europe, announced that record numbers of passengers are taking the train. Over 900,000 passengers used the Eurostar during July, 2008, which is an increase of 16.8% from the same month in 2007.

Simon Montague, Director of Communications for Eurostar, said: “We are delighted to break another Eurostar record by carrying an all-time monthly high of passengers.”

He continued: “Eurostar is now attracting new travelers from across the UK and also crucially persuading even habitual flyers to switch from plane to train for their holidays and business trips.”

As more and more people take the train to continental destinations, Eurostar is also increasing its services. It just announced that it was adding its 11^th daily service from London-Brussels in December of 2008. Since the launch of the high speed service in November, 2007 between the two cities, passengers have increased by 30% on the route.

Additionally, Eurostar just opened sales for its direct ski services from London’s St. Pancras International Station and Kent’s Ashford International station to the French Alps. Eurostar’s highly popular ski direct trains offer easy access to a variety of top ski destinations in the French Alps such as Courchevel, La Plagne, Tignes, Méribel, Les Arcs and allow skiers of all abilities as well as families or beginners to select a resort tailored to their needs.

Finally, Eurostar is adding its 18^th daily train each way on its Paris-London route beginning on 8 September, 2008. Extra trains are being added to meet the surging demand from travelers wanting to travel by 186 mph trains to the Continent. Eurostar is seeing growth of more than 100% in some regions north of London, as travelers take advantage of good value through fares, easy connections via domestic rail services to St. Pancras International, and the high frequency of Eurostar trains.
