British are 60% of buyers in south-west France

British buyers make up 60 per cent of people looking for a second home in the south west of France, an estate agent has said.

Paul Humphries of Knight Frank, which has ten associated offices in France, said that Britons are more keen than their continental cousins to buy abroad.

Mr Humphries said in the Daily Telegraph: "In south-west France, 60 per cent of those buying are British. The agents on the Cote D'Azur say about half their buyers are British."

His comments come as Britons continue to invest in a second home, especially as more opportunities, from Eastern Europe to Dubai, open up.

However, traditional destinations such as France and Spain remain popular for Britons looking abroad.

Backing up this claim was AngloINFO, which said that 16 per cent of the 11 million people who visit France every year go with an eye to buying a property as a home or investment there.
